Dear Allotment tenants

After a wet and mild winter we are fortunate not to have experienced the flooding affecting some parts of the country.

However I am writing this at exceptional times with regard to the Covid -19 virus that is affecting the world and all our individual lives and our families.

We know that ABC will not be carrying out inspections over the next weeks but I hope we can all keep well and healthy so that we can continue to enjoy the joy of allotment gardening. We all know it is not just the physical pleasure that growing our own food brings, but the benefits to our mental health and wellbeing cannot be over emphasised.

I urge you though to be careful about stringent hygiene before and after visiting your plot and keeping the government guidelines of a 2 metre distance from any other person.

We do not yet know if there will be further restrictions that will reduce our ability to maintain our allotments but I fervently hope we will be allowed to continue our work on our plots. It would be devastating to be told we could not visit and harvest some of the already planted onions and potatoes. Many of us will have seedlings and young plants growing in a greenhouse which will need to be planted out over the next weeks.

The Trading Store

We will now be closed until further notice and Saturday was the last time were open for the foreseeable future. However we do have supplies of seed potatoes onions and shallots that we would not like to see go to waste so please could you contact me on pennyfox1@googlemail.com if you would like to still buy these items.

I would be willing to deliver these to your allotment site at an agreed time if this helps anyone, particularly those who might find transport difficult. Could you let me know by 31 March so I can coordinate demand and deliveries.

The membership for 2020 is due and to date we have 53 members signed up with the new membership card. If we are not able to open at all this year I will let this payment run over in to 2021 or reduce the subscription for the next year. All income is valuable to us.

Summer Show and the Hospice fete

I think it highly unlikely that these events will go ahead but as far as the Summer Show goes we will be making a decision over the next few weeks.

The next committee meeting in April has been cancelled. Please check the website regularly for any further news.

In the meantime I hope you all stay safe and well and that we will be back to usual as soon as possible.
