Location

Gashouse Fields allotments are accessed by car from a track leaving Cudworth Road not far from a close called “Mallards”. This track leads to playing fields and open parkland. The allotments can also be reached by a footpath from the end of Hamilton Road, a ‘no through road’ leading off Herbert Road. The allotments are in two sections.

Soil and situation

PLEASE NOTE: there is now a noticeboard on the Gashouse Fields site. It is on the back of the main council sign on the larger section of the allotments.

Gashouse Fields is a low-lying site and the soil is inclined to be heavy. Like most clay soils it is hard work, but rewards skilful effort with high fertility. There are ditches on some boundaries and keeping the natural growth in check at the edge of the site is something to bear in mind when viewing plots.
