December 2018 Newsletter
By Jonathan Goodwin, 17th January 2023
Dear Tenants
Another year is almost over and I hope you are able to reflect on some successes during the growing season despite the rather exceptional weather.
This is an ideal time to consider plans for next year and consolidate what grows well on your site and maybe look out for one or two different or more experimental crops. This year I tried sweet potato but without a lot of success but I am going to try again one more time in 2019 in a different part of the allotment.
Why not try a small area of ‘no–dig‘ if you have access to manure or compost and can put on a thick layer on the surface.
The Trading Store
It is with regret that I announce that Geoff, on doctor’s advice, has resigned from his post as trading store manager. He has been responsible over many years for running the store and I know many of you will miss his contribution to our opening mornings. I would like to add a formal and heartfelt ‘thankyou’ to Geoff for all his hard work. It will not be the same without you.
Our next opening is on January 9th 2019 from 10am to 12.00 and we hope to see as many of you as possible next year. Please see this page for all our dates.
Potato Orders
These are processed and we expect delivery weather permitting in early February.
We are open on all Saturdays in February so we can distribute the potatoes and collect in the annual membership fee which remains at £4 .
Events in 2019
The AGM is on January 30th at 6.30pm Civic Centre room 2 followed by our usual committee meeting. All are welcome.
We are increasingly short of committee members and have a variety of posts vacant so if you feel able to support our Society by joining us please let me know by email: pennyfox1@googlemail.com to discuss which post might match your interests and experience.
