Newsletter July 2020

By Jonathan Goodwin, 17th January 2023

Dear Allotment tenants

We are now seeing some easing of the measures out in place during the COVID 19 pandemic but please keep to all the guidelines currently in place to make our visits to the allotments as safe as they can be for everyone .

I urge you however to remain careful about stringent hygiene before and after visiting your plot especially with the sanitising the locks and gates after use.

It is a busy time with lots to do including trying to keep the soil and plants suitably hydrated during the very hot days we have experienced. Many of us have dug up early potatoes and garlic as well as shallots and even onions.  Soft fruit is at its best at the moment. Many crops are ready to harvest or will be in a few weeks including peas and broad beans and courgettes and cucumbers.

The Trading Store

We will be open next on July 11th  10 til 12 noon  continuing with the strict procedures in place to reduce risk of spreading the virus so please adhere to  social  distancing with a one in one out policy. We welcome orders if you let us know in good time in advance for you to collect. Email: pennyfox1@googlemail.com or brian.stamp44@ntlworld.com

The membership for 2020 remains due so please expect to pay the annual fee if you have already not done so.

This will be the last time we are open until September 5th so please make sure you do plan to come along in July if you need goods before September.

Summer Show and the Hospice fete

The Pilgrims Hospice fete has been cancelled this year but I am hoping we might still be able to help by giving some of our produce to the Hospice for the kitchen to use on 1st August. If you would like to contribute let me know as they only want one person to drop off items so I am happy to do this if things can be delivered to my house.

It has been a difficult decision but with the ongoing restrictions and with everybody’s wellbeing a priority I have had to cancel the Summer Show this year.

I hope we will be able to have an even better show next year with record entries.

The council will not be judging any plots this year.

Please check the website regularly for any further news or announcements.

In the meantime I hope you all stay safe and well and that we will be able to return to a new normal as soon as possible.

P Winston, Chair
